Matteo Thun, architetto e designer, nato a Bolzano nel 1952, ha studiato presso l’Accademia di Salisburgo con Oskar Kokoschka e presso l’Università di Firenze. Dopo l’incontro con Ettore Sottsass diventa co-fondatore del gruppo Memphis a Milano e partner di Sottsass Associati dal 1980 al 1984. Professore di design all’Università di Arti Applicate a Vienna (Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst, Wien) dal 1983 al 2000. Nel 1984 apre il proprio studio a Milano e diventa Art Director per Swatch dal 1990 al 1993.
Matteo Thun & Partners con i partner Luca Colombo, Herbert Rathmaier e Antonio Rodriguez sviluppa progetti nei campi dell’architettura e del design. Lo studio è composto da un team di 50 professionisti, tra architetti, designer e grafici.
Il lavoro di Matteo Thun & Partners si concentra sulla sostenibilità e sull’attenzione allo spirito del luogo, il genius loci. Un’architettura durevole, in cui il rispetto per la tradizione si combina con la ricerca di nuove soluzioni tecnologiche. Un’architettura che riflette, nell’economia delle risorse, l’idea di bellezza.
Il design parte da un lavoro di sottrazione e semplificazione, dove il semplice non è impoverimento semantico ma raffinatezza, esito di un progressivo avvicinamento all’essenza, alla forma iconica. Una ricerca che si sintetizza nel concetto di ZERO Design .
